FAQ

Merchant cash advance questions, answered.

Everything business owners and ISO partners ask us about qualifying, pricing, payments and getting funded.

The basics

What is a merchant cash advance (MCA)?

A merchant cash advance is a purchase of a portion of your business’s future receivables. VitalCap provides a lump sum of working capital up front, and in return receives an agreed amount (the payback) through small daily or weekly remittances from your business bank account. It is not a loan, so there is no interest rate; the cost is set by a factor rate.

How is an MCA different from a bank loan?

Banks typically want years of financial statements, strong credit and collateral, and can take weeks to decide. An MCA is based mainly on your business’s recent revenue, so approvals are faster and the requirements are lighter. The trade-off is a higher cost of capital and shorter payback periods, which is why an MCA works best for short-term needs like inventory, payroll, equipment, or growth opportunities that pay for themselves quickly.

How much funding can I get?

Your offer is based on your average monthly revenue, the consistency of your deposits, your existing obligations and your time in business.

Qualifying

What are the minimum requirements?

You’re likely a fit if your business has been operating for 12 months or more, the owner has a credit score of 520 or higher, the business averages $15,000 or more in monthly revenue, and the business bank account shows at least 5 deposits a month.

Can I get funded with bad credit?

Often, yes. Credit is one factor, but VitalCap underwrites mainly on the strength and consistency of your business revenue. Owners with credit scores from 520 can qualify.

Will applying affect my credit?

No. We use a soft credit pull to review your application, so applying won’t affect your credit score.

Are there industries you don’t fund?

VitalCap funds a wide range of industries, including restaurants, construction, medical and dental practices, retail, wholesale, auto services and professional services. A small number of industries are restricted, and our guidelines change from time to time. If you’re not sure, call us at 212.994.6996.

Applying and getting funded

How do I apply?

Fill out the two-minute application at vitalcapfund.com/getstarted and send your 3 most recent business bank statements. A VitalCap underwriter reviews your file and calls you with offers.

How fast can I get funded?

Offers can come in as fast as 30 minutes once we have your application and bank statements, and most approved deals fund the same day the contract is signed.

What documents do I need?

A completed application and your 3 most recent business bank statements. Depending on the deal, an underwriter may ask for month-to-date activity or a few supporting documents.

Can I adjust the offer?

Yes. You can tailor the amount and remittance schedule, on your own or with a dedicated underwriter, before you sign.

Payments and payoff

How do payments work?

Remittances are a set daily or weekly amount based on an estimate of your revenue, debited automatically from your business bank account. If your sales drop, you can request a reconciliation and your remittance is adjusted to match your actual receipts. You choose the schedule that fits your cash flow when you review your offer.

How long does it take to pay back?

There’s no fixed term. Most advances are remitted in about 3 to 12 months, depending on your sales.

What if my sales slow down?

Your remittance is based on an estimate of your revenue, not a fixed schedule. If your sales drop, contact us and request a reconciliation. We’ll review your recent bank statements and adjust your remittance to match your actual receipts.

Can I pay off early?

Most VitalCap offers include an early payoff discount, which lowers your total payback if you pay off ahead of schedule. Your underwriter will tell you whether your offer includes one and how it works.

Can I get more funding after I pay down my advance?

Yes. Businesses with a good payment history are often eligible for a renewal, frequently on better terms than their first advance.
